Overview
In-home care is basic, day-to-day care provided by a hired caregiver in the senior’s own home. Services can cover anything from housekeeping, laundry and meal preparation, to aid with bathing, dressing and monitoring medications. Seniors and their families may hire private care workers, or work with a licensed agency that monitors and assures the quality of service.
What to expect
Non-medical Home Care is one of the most flexible options for seniors and their families. Home Care Agencies offer assistance from just a few hours a day up to full-time, live-in care. Clients who work with an agency have the option of choosing from several caregivers to find one with whom they are comfortable. Agencies also have the added assurance of licensing and monitoring by an outside manager to ensure caregivers meet the highest standards.
Who is it ideal for?
Single seniors living at home often turn to Home Care as an alternative to Assisted Living. It enables the person to stay at home, but affords him or her help with day-to-day activities as well as companionship. Home Care is also ideal for senior couples where one or both individuals need some assistance. A hired caregiver can relieve the burden, stress and guilt placed on the healthier partner, allowing the couple to continue to act as companions rather than dependents.
